The Rotary Club of Bolivar-Zoar is proud to sponsor Scouts BSA Troop 92 in Bolivar, Ohio. Through our sponsorship, we support local youth on their journey toward developing essential leadership skills, strong character, and a lifelong commitment to community service as they work toward Scouting’s highest honor, the rank of Eagle Scout.
Rebuilding a Strong Scouting Tradition
After being inactive in recent years, Scouting in Bolivar was revitalized in 2022 by dedicated local volunteers and community members. Today, the program is thriving, with over 55 boys and girls actively participating across the coed troop and cub scout ranks.
Troop 92 plays an active, visible role in enhancing community life across Bolivar, Zoar, and neighboring areas through year-round service and civic involvement:
- Honoring Veterans: Scouts march in annual Veterans Day parades in Zoar, Mineral City, and Bolivar, and place flags on veterans’ graves for Memorial Day.
- Parades & Celebrations: Participating in Bolivar’s Memorial Day, Strawberry Festival, and Christmas parades.
- Community Improvement: Organizing litter cleanups at the Zoar Wetland Arboretum and local parks.
- Local Traditions: Winning Zoar’s annual Christmas tree decorating contest two years running.
How Rotary Sponsorship Helps
Rotary’s financial sponsorship directly offsets critical operational costs for Troop 92, ensuring Scouting remains accessible and impactful for all local youth. Key areas supported by Rotary funding include:
- Monthly Outdoor Adventures: Assisting with campsite fees, program costs, fuel, and food supplies for the 9 to 12 weekend campouts held each year.
- Essential Camping Gear: Purchasing and maintaining shared troop equipment such as tents, stoves, and cooking gear.
- Merit Badge Supplies & Uniforms: Providing materials needed for merit badges and assisting with official BSA uniforms.
- Financial Assistance & Registration: Offsetting national and council registration fees so no scout is turned away due to financial hardship.
